POLICY POSITIONS
Nevada has long struggled to improve the quality of our education system. From bloated student to teacher ratios, to being significantly under-funded, to not paying teachers enough and our children not receiving a high quality education they deserve, Nevada needs swift and consequential change. Our local leadership needs to find innovative streams of revenue to put towards our Education budget rather than squeezing it tighter to make ends meet in other areas. Education first should be our priority.
The battle for equal right for all is an ongoing and continuously evolving process. Our commitment to this progress must remain strong. Continuing to promote diversity only makes our community stronger. Allowing voting access to all Nevadans ensures that all voices will be heard. Employers need to do their part in creating access to opportunity for more diverse populations. Our institutions should be representative of our communities. As a community we need to stand up for our fellow citizens when we see injustices and ensure legislation is produced to continue to protect them. Income inequality is a large problem that disproportionately impacts people of color and our community must promote equity.
Nevada should continue to remain a sanctuary for those seeking reproductive healthcare needs. With a female majority in our state legislature, this should be something that is sought after and codified in our state constitution. Nevada leads the way in ensuring women’s rights are protected and as the landscape throughout the nation continues to be shaky, it will need to have a strong foundation here at home.
Nevada has become the economic player it is today because of the individuals that have supported it’s growth over decades through hard work and consistency. It’s time for the gaming and resort industry to supply a livable wage to their employees. Increasing minimum wage in the state of Nevada to a livable wage will further stimulate the growth of its economy. Affordable housing needs to be a top priority so that young families can afford a place to grow and where individuals don’t need several roommates in order to have a roof over their head.
Water conservation and energy diversification need to be a focus for Nevadans. Climate change is continuing to put significant pressure on our water supply as well as our energy grid. Nevada needs to continue its efforts of being a top contender in environmental priorities to ensure that future generations enjoy the benefits of our great state. There needs to be a priority in steering away from monopolies in terms of energy supply. A power grid with more diverse energy supplies with allow for a more stable infrastructure system to supply our needs.
