Dominique is a Mexican American queer woman with an unyielding passion for equality.

She grew up in several different communities throughout her lifetime that have provided unique perspectives. Nevada has been her home since birth. Being raised by a single parent who worked two jobs to support her taught Dominique what it meant to be independent, self-sufficient and to own areas of responsibility. Later in life, her blended family taught Dominique what it means to care for each other as whole.

The value of education has been a thread weaved throughout her life with her high school graduation, religious community internships, college courses on Church Ministries and Leadership, Life Coaching school, and now Political Science as she pursues a platform for change.

Spending majority of her youth involved in conservative and religious organizations and then working 15 years for an extremely progressive company has expanded Dominique’s world view; particularly as it pertains to human rights.

As a queer woman, Dominique was condemned by some of her most important communities. She would describe it as one of the most challenging seasons of her life, but that it taught her the true meaning of grace and what it means to authentically care for and appreciate each person’s uniqueness.

Dominique believes human rights are a bare minimum. The pursuit towards equality should be consistent, while also implementing and executing strategy for opportunities of success.

She believes we need to find a way to balance human rights equality with strategic opportunity. Meaning, while we push for change for underrepresented minorities, how do we ensure that the apportionment of resources allocated to education will provide a foundation of opportunity for those same communities?

Dominique believes we can do better. This belief is what has guided her entire life. But better is not the result of one person. It can’t be. It’s an ongoing effort of collaboration. Our communities are what shape us and teach us what is valuable.

There is much work to be done, resilience, intention and strategy will get us there; together.
